With the
fabulous fashion becoming more accessible and affordable than ever before,
clothes seem to have a shorter expiry date. We girls are the most blessed
of all, given the privilege of so many different styles, different colors to
choose from, ranging from different shades of pink, red, purple to blue, brown
and even black and so many different things to accessorize ourselves with, what
an amazingly colorful life! William Allen Butler has rightly quoted about
his women in his verse 'Nothing to Wear':
Shopping
alone and shopping together,
At
all hours of the day and in all sorts of weather;
Dresses
for breakfasts, and dinners, and balls;
Dresses
to sit in, and stand in, and walk in;
Dresses
to dance in, and flirt in, and talk in;
Dresses
in which to do nothing at all,
Dresses
for winter, Spring, summer, and fall.
:)
A woman’s
dress should be like a barbed wire fence, serving its purpose without
obstructing the view. Every woman, be it a kid, school going girl, college
chick, working woman, mother or a grandmother, wants to look beautiful,
irrespective of the age. Every time we pass by a mirror, we can’t just stop
ourselves from looking at it and blushing at the fact that we are looking as
pretty as ever. Mirror mirror who is the most beautiful woman in this world…..n
well we all want to be her. We can’t define in words the satisfaction that we
get when someone compliments us on how we are looking or what we are wearing,
from a small hairpin to a beautiful dress…it makes us happy…really happy!!
There is a lot of fuss and unsaid competition
going on around us about style, fashion sense, brands, colors and who is
looking good and who is not. What is the first thing that comes to your mind,
when you use the word “style”? This term most commonly refers to one’s fashion
sense or outer appearance...but in the true sense style is much more than your
shoulder length haircut, fashionable coat, or your shoes. It’s the entire
combination of the way we dress, talk, move our body, or do anything for that
matter. Simply put, it’s how we express our inner being. This includes all of
our thoughts, emotions, interests, and values. Everything on the outside is a
mere reflection of what’s on the inside.
There
are tons of “what to wear” and “what not to wear” type of advice out there, but
nobody ever cares about how to really develop your own unique sense of style
rather than just following the crowd and so called ‘in fashion’ stuff. Always
remember,Coco Chanel says “Fashion fades; only style remains the same”. There's
no equivocalness between these two words but there is a
difference...Fashion means the popular style at a certain place and time.
Something "fashionable" conforms to one or more popular norms;
something "stylish" has a nice composition and flair. You can be
totally stylish without following a certain fashion trend or fashion norm!
It all comes down to one question...What really makes a
woman stylish? Is it the clothing she wears
or the way she wears it? Does a woman define her image or does the image define
her? Many a times, we see that one woman comes off as attractive, while
another, wearing the same outfit, comes off as try-hard and awkward. Why is it
that some women following all the “style laws” to the tee still look bland,
while others break all the rules and still look stunning? These are just a
few examples we see around ourselves from the mountain of confusions that
overwhelm the average woman when it comes to style. This is because style
is more of an art which you learn with time. You can’t go from being an
ordinary dresser to a rule breaking stylish person overnight. You have to
learn, observe and spend time with yourself knowing who you are and what makes
you ‘you’! It’s really more about expressing your personal self rather than
following a set of rules set out by some style expert.
Some people might be thinking that I must
be a style coach with an unstoppable force of charisma who looks impeccable all
the time (Ha)...many a times I’m at home and even outdoors all muddled up and
wearing clothes that are more about comfort than fashion...I’ll tell you a
secret...I've worn my Jockey track pants to work many a times
(sshhhh...the guards at the gate still think they are some sort of trousers ;)
Well, I’m just another girl obsessed with the subject of style. I love learning
and analyzing this stuff, and while obsessively doing so I am trying to share
what I've learnt.
The majority of style advice people would
give out there is about what you can fix on the outside. Now you might be thinking,
“Ummm, isn’t that the point?”
Yes
and no. It’s just a part of it. You can go browse the internet, read magazines
for tips on how to shop for a dress, what colors will suit you or what type of
shoes you should wear to the office, but within the boundary of achieving your
ultimate sense of style, such isolated bits of advice would do less or no good
and sound pretty useless. I firmly believe that
every woman has the capability to be charismatic – being the type of girl that
everyone loves and is drawn towards.
In the coming posts I’ll be working to
give you the lowdown on the must have's of the season...What's hot and what's
not in store this summer around you...! XOXO
