The perfect weather...Merry X'mas!

Baby, it's cold outside..but that's no reason to look dowdy! Why not balance the cold outside, with a little show of *hotness* from you! ;) So since i had been preparing for my dreaded exams, i came across a word...Oxymoron-- n styling tips for this super crazy Winter seems like one to me...an oxymoron (put on your leggings, a warmer, a sweater, a parka, a pair of gloves n you're done!) But truly devoted fashion people know that you needn't sacrifice your toes to frostbite for style! I know it! ;)
The abundance of cold weather friends like hats, gloves, scarves, boots, bulky sweaters, coats....all put together can look overwhelming if you're not careful! So this winters, instead of forfeiting style for comfort, keep reading these style tips for some practical advice on looking your highly best when the temperatures drop! N let me warn you...these tips are gonna de-frump those layers, extend the lifespan of your clothing, and breathe fresh air into your everyday pieces.

1) Scarves- They are a perfect accessory with pure style and warmth. Grab a bunch of colorful scarves from your nearest store to add a splash of color to the grays outside. Make sure you check the collection at Madame, Kapsons, Vero Moda, UCB and No Exit.
P.S. Check out different ways of tying them around @ http://www.scarves.net/how-to-tie-a-scarf/winter-scarves.

2) Cashmere- A simple cashmere sweater in solid colors is perfect for the freezing cold outside. Check the collection at UCB, French Connection and Vero Moda and invest in one!
P.S. To add that extra statement to this simple clothing, get your cuffs or bracelets out of your summer accessory box and wear them, on top of your sweaters!

3) A fur Vest- Shop for this uber stylish faux fur vest at Calvin Klein stores and pair over a well fitted sweater. They are really warm!

4) The Trench- Invest in a good colorful parka or a peacoat for the 'too cold' days! Buy a waist-length coat to go with a well fitted pair of denims for a chic look and pair with knee length boots, or a thigh-length one which can be paired up with your jeans or your dresses for it will keep you warm without an extra bulk, and for a more dramatic fashion forward look invest in a calf-length coat- it's selling hot this season! Buy one at FCUK, No Exit or Vero Moda.

5) Cardigans- You can find these at any store around in all possible colors. You can pair these with your leggings or jeans with a nice top or sweater inside.
P.S. Dress these up with a sweet brooch on either side or ends to add to that X-factor.

6)Summer Dresses and Turtlenecks- Turtlenecks are a must have for winters as they keep you warm and can extend your summer wardrobe by wearing one underneath.
P.S. Take out those jumpsuits and plaid shirts, wear with a neutral colored turtleneck to stay toasty! ;)

7) Stockings- Ditch those pair of grandma's leggings for a pair of thick opaque stockings- they are perfect to wear with dresses, long sweaters and long coats and keep you warm without compromising on warmth!

8) Waistbelts- Wondering what to do with those unused waistbelts...then take out your favorite one, dress up in your jeans, tee, cardigan and wear it over the cardigan to tone up the style.

9) Polo T-shirts- Dig out those polo shirts you got. They make a perfectly awesome and low-key undershirt for your winter sweaters.
P.S. Don't go overboard with colors in a patterned sweater, make sure your polo and your sweater look balanced, however play with all the colors in the world when either of the two is a black, white or nude! Try it! ;)

10) Gloves- Buy a pair of colored ones and dump those boring grays and blacks! Or even better ditch a pair of gloves for a pair of colorful mittens! Perfect and cute in winters!

11) Hat- Got a hat! Get inspired from Kate winslet who keeps it stylish n warm with that Fedora!

12) Boots- They are a must have for winter season to keep you stylish without the frost bites. Who thought that all the baby tones could look so stylish put together. this one's my favorite...Natalie Portman rocks this dove, pink and gray trio with those knee length boots.

Follow these and more coming to keep you cozy in winters, and ofcourse stylish! xoxo

Weekend DIY

Whether cut from a pair of denims, balanced with a blazer or seemingly swiped from an old aerobics class, the ultra-short bottoms are "in every single store," says Seventeen fashion director Gina Kelly.  Recent trends steer away from the longer Bermuda-style pants and more towards short shorts. (Think mid-thigh and up.) When worn with heels or wedge sandals, shorts can make your legs look longer and leaner. Pair them with ballet flats or sandals and a silk shirt for a polished, preppy look, or just toss on a tee and a pair of oversized sunglasses to don a classic, retro style.

Short shorts require something more intangible to pull on — and pull off- It's your attitude..spot on! Now this little piece of clothing can burn a hole in your pocket, esp. if you want something trendier. So do as i say. You needn't necessarily spend big bucks to keep up with these latest trends. Just revamp your wardrobe by indulging in some DIY.

  • All you need is a pair of humble denim shorts or an old well fitted denim, a flair for creativity and most importantly oodles of patience (it's always worth it!).

  • Revamp your oldest shorts inspired by this Zara beauty. Simply stitch a lace panel on either side of the shorts neatly and you have a brand new high street-esque piece in your closet. Depending on the shade of your shorts, you can choose from white, black, beige or even pastel colored lace fabrics.

  • One of the easiest ways to spruce up your ragged denim shorts is to embellish it with studs and spikes. A visit to the local market and you will be amazed at the variety of such embellishments available today. Wear this with a tank and accessorize with metallic accessories.

  • This one allows for a great level of personalization. Simply detach the existing denim pockets to replace with what best defines you. While ikkat print pockets would be my first choice, you can choose from comic prints, neon patches, a quote or even a caricature!

  • Bring out the grungy in you with these Alexander Wang inspired shorts right off the runway. With a razor fray the denim right and add some metallic chains to create a similar effect. Wear with a basic tee for a casual day out or layer with a boyfriend blazer and booties.

  • This one is perhaps my favorite! Arm yourself with the same colored lace in varying sizes and then unleash your creative best by overlapping the lace tastefully to recreate a similar effect.
DIY and have fun! xoxo

Tank up on some Tanks!

Tank tops give you a super feminine and subtle edge when in comes to style! They are the best option available for scorching summers, however summers are almost gone now! So this fall, dress up your summer tank top for a sexy and classy look!
Tank tops are the most versatile of all, provided you get them right! I have seen a lot of girls showing their bra straps from back- don't do that ever! It takes away all that classy edge from the thing! Invest in some good multi-way brassieres and look even better! And above all, Make sure your tank is not too loose or form fitting.
Now let's discuss some different styles you can adopt with them!
Roll a Scarf
  • A scarf can effortlessly add style to your look.
  • Go for some eye-catching patterns in bright fun colors if you have a plain tank top. If you have a lot of details on your tank top then go for simple scarfs that compliment your tank top.
  • There are just so many ways to tie a scarf. Choose either and rock the look.

Ace it with Necklace
  • Glam up your tank with a fine-looking  necklace- contemporary or ethnic- up to you.
  • The length of the necklace doesn't matter as long as it is not too gaudy! Just keep it simple! :)
  • Pair with skirts, pants, denims or shorts...that's why i called it the most versatile!
  • I'm just awe-struck at Kalki Koechlin for carrying off that super cute tank top with a pencil skirt for a red carpet look! Isn't that gorgeous and so effortless! Confidence, ladies...that's all you need! :D

Layer it up
  • Go for a casual vest over a simple tank for an edgy look. Go for an Indian style ethnic vest with some nice Jodhpuri pants if you are going to a traditional get together. Trust me you'll look like a million bucks. ;)
  • Pair it with a cover-up jacket or blazer with its buttons open to get the glimpse of the  tank.
  • Add a sophisticated touch to your tank with a bright colored cardigan.
  • Wear it with an open button shirt. It not only makes you look chic but also thin.
  • Layer your tank with another tank or a thin strap spaghetti top for a cool yet flirty look.

Office look

Tank tops are undoubtedly hot, and though you might be tempted to buy every skimpy, see-through tank top out there or just forget your shirt altogether- don't. Why? Because you can't get away with either of those things at your job. As an alternative, pick out tanks that look cool and say "I can dress like an adult for my 9 to 5," all at the same time.
I recommend you pair most of them up with something like a blazer or pencil skirt for work.

Don’t have a tank top??? You can get it from Vero Moda, Reebok, Puma, ELLE, Mango, Adidas, ZARA, Chemistry, Pantaloons, Westside, Shoppers Stop, UCB, any local market! For ethnic style tanks, you can shop at Fabindia, Globus or at Global Desi stores! Keep reading! xoxo

Yaayyy....I realized that I hadn't shopped for even a handkerchief in over 2 months..maybe that was the cause of all the stress! Lol....Anywayys...the stylejunkiee is back and is presently obsessed with this Leather jacket that she just bought (a faux one, however ;)!

And then you need other items in your wardrobe for your outfit and of course some accessories that are gonna complete your look.
Wear a pair of perfect fit jeans (Know your fit @http://stylejunkiee.blogspot.in/2012/05/jeanie-jeanie-on-wall-whos-got-bestest.html), a t-shirt or tank top and pull on your jacket.

Get Layering tips from Meera!!

In the world of Bollywood movies where fashion trends generally take a back seat, giving way to all that’s showy and skimpy, Diana Penty’s character in “Cocktail” comes as a refreshing change. Her style statement through the movie is all about layering, and she plays it up with the hottest colours of the season: pastels. Her ever evolving personality and lifestyle is reflected in her wardrobe choices. The one thing that stays constant is her penchant for layering, be it cardigans, jackets or wraps.

Meera’s casual outfits are composed of jeans, capris, vests and floral tops. Here choice in colours like pinks and light blues add to her youthful charm. She wears everything from crocheted vests to shirts to long cardigans, and cinches them with a slim belt over the waist. A chunky bangle every now and then, long, beaded necklaces, and a couple of roomy totes are all the accessorising she needs.
What I loved most were her blazers in floral prints, polka dots, and even stars. This is part of her work-wear look (she’s a designer by profession, remember?), but she stretches it to her-evening wear look too. If you are blessed with long, slim legs like her, you can opt for short-jumpsuits, like the one in the hit song “Tum hi ho bandhu”. However, for those who feel that looking sexy is outside your comfort zone, you can try long jumpsuits for a perfect day-to-night look. Wear a blazer over it, and accessorise with a pair of heels, stacked bangles, and a clutch for instant glam. Like with Meera, layering can be your key to chic.

Lioness..anyone!!??

Long time huh! Well what to say...light issues, studies, work...n above all laziness!!! I believe its high time to get my ducks in a row! N of course, how can stylejunkiee be sleepjunkiee!! So to start with...i was talking to one of my friends about how gorgeous Serena's (Gossip Girl star) hair is...blonde, untamed n glossy! I browsed a bit about her style and have a few tips for you to create that wavy, out-of-bed, lion mane! Keep reading..
I remember the time when everyone (including me;) wanted straight hair...and i swear i regret those 6 hours i spent burning my hair!! Anyways, i long for my natural waves!! Poker straight hair is good for a high pony, no doubt. But, this season is all about beachy waves, super curls, unkempt hair, fringes and sexy short hair. Lion mane hairstyle was earlier thought to be good only for Halloween but thanks to models and actors for sporting them on runways and movies...<grinning>
I mean…who could ignore Serena's hair in GG or our own Sex and the city star Sarah Jessica Parker who has sported frizzy and wavy lion mane hair in most of the series and movies. In the recent Bollywood flick CockTail, Deepika Padukone has changed her hair up from her usual style and looked gorgeous. It looked natural, unkempt and added sensuality to the character that she played.

How to achieve a lion's mane hair style?

  • It's all about adding volume and more volume to your hair.  It's called 'lion mane' because like lion it looks lush/luxurious and swept back from the face and is thick and full. You can get this look at home without visiting saloon every time.
  • Use a volumizing shampoo to wash your hair (washing hair previous night saves a lot of time) and use a very little conditioner (since it tends to soften the hair and will give it a silky fall which is exactly opposite to what we are trying to get here).
  • Blow dry hair while lifting it from the roots until it is slightly damp. Braid all the hair into several small braids if you want curls or tie it into a high bun if you want just waves.
  • Let the hair dry naturally (or just sleep over it)
  • Unbraid/loosen hair and comb it backwards to untangle it. Back combing is a great way to achieve bouncy and voluminous hair.
  • A good hair spray comes handy here. I personally like TIGI products. Start from the front with a tiny section of hair, spray it generously, crimp it and then push it forward (over your face). Keep doing this until all the hair is sprayed and crimped in tiny sections and pushed forward, then flip your head back.
  • Adjust the hair with finger tips or a brush very slightly.

 AND
You are all set to rock! Lioness ;-) XOXO
